The fast casual restaurant chain will open its first location next month in Pembroke Pines at the Pembroke Square Shopping Plaza at 151 N. Hiatus Road. A lease
is also signed for a Kendall location in the Palms at Town & Country shopping center scheduled for March 2013. The company has another deal in Delray Beach and is scouting for locations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
Franchisee BBQ Boyz of Fort Lauderdale purchased the development rights for up to 26 VooDoo locations in Florida, south of the Panhandle. The deal was the largest in the restaurant chain’s 10-year history, nearly doubling the company’s existing or planned locations. BBQ Boyz Managing Partner Jack Flechner is a former attorney, who most recently sold several successful Five Guys franchises.
BBQ Boyz is partially funding its development with investors who are participating in the U.S. government’s EB-5 Visa program, which allows foreigners to invest in a qualified project in order to receive green cards for them and their families.
New Orleans-based VooDoo BBQ & Grill, which started in 2002, also offers Cajun favorites like gumbo and PoBoy sandwiches, as well as traditional Louisiana side dishes like gris gris greens, rattlesnake beans, corn pudding and Zapp’s potato chips.
