About 20 shops and restaurants will open alongside Trader Joe's at an upcoming development at Tower Shops in Davie. Construction crews are building an additional 50,000 square feet of space in the middle of the 1904 S. University Drive shopping center.

Trader Joe's is expected to open toward the end of the year or early 2016. Names of other businesses coming to the site have not been announced.  Also under construction in the Tower Shops is the famed, Twin Peaks restaurant.  The 10,000 square foot "Ultimate Man-Cave" has an expected opening date in May 2015.  Tower Shops is already home to dozens of retailers and restaurants, including Michaels, Office Depot, Home Depot, BurgerFi and Chipotle.

"The tenant mix for this new development will complement our attractive existing line up of merchants and will include a specialty grocery store, restaurants with outdoor dining and retail," Deirdre Johnson, vice president of asset management for Federal Realty, the leasing firm for Tower Shops' development, said in a statement. Federal Realty expects the construction will be completed this fall.  Across from the coming Trader Joe's building, there's more construction going on for a Twin Peaks restaurant.

While walking around Tower Shops earlier this week, Lenore Jansen, 73, said she's happy Trader Joe's is coming to Davie.  "It will be very welcomed here," said the Plantation resident, who has gone to Wellington in Palm Beach County to shop for the grocer's organic food.

Jansen said the new store probably will bring a lot of traffic congestion to the busy shopping center.  But then again, Trader Joe's lures masses everywhere they open, she said.  "They get pretty jammed," she said of the popular grocer. "I think they'll have parking issues anywhere."
